travel north america united states california san francisco fort point national historic site
Lynn and I had the opportunity to visit Fort Point National Historic Point in 2009.
This seacoast fortification was completed just before the American Civil War and is now located under the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge which came later.
It is a US Army site administered byu the Natinal Park Service which provides guided tours.
It was under repair while we were there, but we still got to tour the facility and see this interesting site.
Fort Point is also the name of the land promontory on which it was built and which is now a busy playground for surfers.
